Almatex AP-4416 is an experimental cationic UV curable acrylic powder resin. Since it carries cycloaliphatic epoxy as functional groups in the side chain, this AP4416 offers the same cationic UV curing characters as conventional cycloaliphatic epoxies used for liquid cationic UV curing. Many of commercial sulfonium and iodonium salt based cationic photoinitiators can be used for AP4416 at concentrations from 1-3%. Many of hydroxy containing compounds can also be added as chain transfer agents to formulate cationic UV powder coatings based on AP4416 for various desired properties. The UV coating based on AP4416 offers good smoothness, hardness, solvent resistance, and clarity.
